Using Remote Sensing Technology in Wild Land and Forest Fire Management in Sudan
Detail
Summary
  1. Remote sensing of wild land fires and the lack of accurate fire history data (extent, recurrence, intensity and seasonality of burns).
  2. When fire records exist they are often patchy, inaccurate or years of data are missing.
  3. Importance of satellite remote sensing technology in fire monitoring, their consequences and operational management.
  4. Special techniques and procedures used in fires detection.
  5. Lack of land use plan is a prime factor causing increased wild land fire incidence, while existing wild land fire management practices are not protecting the area (Case study: Albaja).
  6. Wild land fires are largely extending and have negative impacts on the biodiversity, the ecosystem and the socioeconomic activities of the area.
  7. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) image is spectral index that is sensitive to the presence and abundance of green vegetation.
  8. (NDVI) formulations and calculations.
  9. Detection of burned areas and changes between images using (NDVI) time series.
  10. Graphs showing the effected vegetation cover (number of times burn and Correlating dry biomass as with time integrated).
  11. Three vegetation indexes are considered for estimating biomass (EVI, MSAV12 and NDVI), the NDVI is found to be best predictor of standing biomass (r2=0.69).
  12. Forest global fire alert.
